This Thursday: Wallpaper and AWOLNATION at The Prophet Bar [Show Previews]

AWOLNATION at The Prophet Bar on 8/4

There’s really no way to avoid liking a band that has songs named #STUPiDFACEED and FUCKINGBESTSONGEVERRR. In a time where it seems that every. damn. person. on. Twitter. has a broken keyboard (OMGGGG GIRLLL I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE SHOW TONIGHTTTT), Wallpaper is an ironic breath of fresh air.

Wallpaper is opening for AWOLNATION, a hard-edged electronic rock solo project from Aaron Bruno, formerly of ”Under The Influence of Giants.” Bruno creates his unique sound by mixing vocal distortion, rapping, shouting, and singing – well, at least you won’t be bored. Genre? Who needs a genre? AWOLNATION is an innovative mix of soul, electronic, rock and hip-hop – something that some other music bloggers may call a “fascinating collection.”

The show is this Thursday at the big room at the Prophet Bar. We’re thinking that Wallpaper’s satirical take on pop music and Aaron’s creative beats will translate well to a live performance.

Need more info? Here’s the 411 on their recent EP from their promoter:

Led by Ricky Reed, Wallpaper.’s been riling up the music scene with beat-heavy pop ditties such as current single “#STUPiDFACEDD.” Now, the #STUPiDFACEDD EP was just released July 26 via Boardwalk Records and Hype Music, a hybrid licensing partnership between MTV and Extreme Music. These eight new original songs are built around solid hooks and plenty of attitude, with select tracks featuring Bay Area rap legend Too Short, and buzzing up-and-comer K. Flay.

Like Sisyphus was forever doomed to push a boulder up a mountain, I'm forever doomed to be an outsider looking in to the world of indie music. From my roots as a showtune-singin', country-music lovin', pop-music dancin' kid, I take a totally weird take on today's shows, culture, fashion & scene.
