Tim Halperin et. al. at Trees [Show Previews]

There comes a time in every blogger’s life when we have to admit our guilty pleasures. For some, it might be something as small as liking Foster the People after July (because, let’s be honest, none of us are going to admit to that.) For others, it’s worse. And for me, dear readers it’s worse.

My name is Sissyphis, and I like American Idol.

A lot. Like since the beginning. To the point where I can actually carry on a conversation about the pros and cons of Steven Tyler vs. Simon Cowell better than most people (ahem, our dear governator) can talk about government agencies.

And so, it is with great pleasure, that I get to preview Fort Worth native Tim Halperin’s show this Thursday at Trees. Halperin made it to the top 25 on American Idol, but didn’t make the cut to the top 10. Nevertheless, he was contractually obligated to praise the ground upon which Ryan Seacrest walks not release an album for a year. Luckily, that year is up, and as our friends at Pegasus News report, it ain’t too shabby.

Halperin is one of those rare pop-ish artists that actually writes their own music. Sure, Britney can shake it and the Black Eyed Peas are… whatever… but when Halperin sings, he actually knows and feels what he’s singing about. So while I might be a fan girl, at least I’m not on here signing Nickelback’s praises.

The show’s lineup is pretty stacked with local talent, representing mainly the pop side of the spectrum. It’s also a departure for Trees, but it’s such an awesome venue that I can’t imagine the show will be that lame.

Unless, of course, it’s over run with…. screaming teenagers!

Like Sisyphus was forever doomed to push a boulder up a mountain, I'm forever doomed to be an outsider looking in to the world of indie music. From my roots as a showtune-singin', country-music lovin', pop-music dancin' kid, I take a totally weird take on today's shows, culture, fashion & scene.
