Three Places to Spend Your Hard Earned Cash This Weekend [Concert Rundown]

If you go to only three shows this weekend (plus Thursday and Monday), make sure it’s these.

It’s been a busy week for great shows in Dallas. Keep Shelly in Athens played Monday at the Prophet Bar, At the Drive In played Trees, and Real Estate played Club Dada on Tuesday. Tonight, you’ve got the sold out Spoon show at Granada theater. If you’re worn out by Friday – we don’t blame you! But if you’re up for some more live music this weekend, we’ve got three more excellent picks for you.

Where are you headed this weekend?

Dick Dale at Trees

Support: The Monco Poncho and Exit 360
Date: Thursday, April 12, 2012
Doors: 7:00pm
Tickets: $18-$22
Why: The “King of the Surf Guitar” is coming to Dallas and playing a venue with a pretty darn good sound system. If you ever wondered where the surf rock sound originated, look no further then Dick Dale. For film buffs, you’ll recognize his iconic guitar work on the Pulp Fiction soundtrack. And as a side note, the guy is 74 years old – it’s amazing he’s touring at all!

Frankie Rose at Club Dada

Support: Dive, Lonesome Ghost and The Vliets
Date: Friday, April 13, 2012
Doors: 8:00pm
Tickets: $10-$12
Why: A veteran of several excellent bands in their own regard (Crystal Stilts, Dum Dum Girls and the Vivian Girls) Frankie Rose is fresh off the release of her first solo effort. Called Interstellar, the album is a delicious blend of 80s new-wave with modern lofi garage rock. Opening for Frankie Rose is the Beach Fossils spin off, Dive. Dive have yet to release their debut record, but the blogosphere buzz is high. This is not a show to miss!

Chairlift at Club Dada

Support: Nite Jewel
Date: April 6-8th, 2012
Doors: 8:00 pm
Tickets: $13-$16
Why: Most of you might hear Chairlift’s “Bruises” and instantly think Apple and iThings. Featured in a 2008 commercial for the fourth-gen iPod Nano, the song is easily Chairlift’s most popular to date. But their 2012 release, Something, is a solid effort that finds the group moving beyond their commercial trappings and proving that Chairlift is more then byproduct of the Apple marketing machine. Nite Jewel is the icing on this cake.
