Pickings are still slim this weekend for live music in Dallas (that is, at least as far as our tastes are concerned). All you 90s metal fans may have some attractive choices. But alas, it just isn’t our thing. We’re expanding our selection criteria this week, moving beyond the standard weekend set to include shows on Wednesday, Friday, and Monday. Where are you headed this weekend?
Kendrick Lamar at Trees
Support: n/a
Doors: 7:00pm
Tickets: $25
Why: Section.80 was easily one of my favorite albums of 2011. If you’re a fan of high quality hip hop (sorry T-Pain fans) then this is a show for you.

The Cannabinoids Featuring Erykah Badu at Granada Theater
Support: A.Dd+
Doors: 8:00pm
Tickets: $25
Why: Is it just me, or is Erykah Badu actively working on making her presence known in Dallas lately? It seem like just about every other month she’s popping up in some local music news. From birthday suit jaunts in downtown Dallas to late night surprise DJ stops and of course, musical collaborations with frequent visitor Wayne Coyne. Ok, fine, so the birthday suit thing is getting kind of old – but you get the point. She’s prolific. Be sure to catch her with backing band The Cannabinoids, which only happens to feature some of the best hip hop minds around. Seriously folks, go to this show.

The Kills at Granada Theater
Support: Jeff the Brotherhood and Hunters
Doors: 7:00pm
Tickets: $24
Why: The Kills are one of my favorite bands of the last five years or so, and Jeff the Brotherhood are no slouches either. On top of that, the Kills have a reputation for putting on some pretty stellar live sets. Can’t ask for much more on a Monday night! Oh, and did we mention we’ve got some free tickets for this show? Oh yeah. Stay tuned later this week as we give them away to one lucky winner!
