After last weekend’s disappointing lineup, this weekend is shaping up to be much better as we start to get back into the swing of things. I’m excited for 2012 – I think it’s going to be a great year for live music in Dallas. This weekend we have three solid picks for you, and you really couldn’t go wrong with any.

Why: Hailing from one of our favorite cities on the planet, Portland, Oregon – Starfucker (or simply STFCKR for the non-cursing type) are semi-known for their propensity to wear women’s clothing during shows. That and some exceptional electro synth rock. Really enjoyed their 2011 album Reptilians, and for those lucky few who have a day off on Monday, it’s a great way to kick off the 3 day weekend.

The Burning Hotels at Granada Theater

Why: How time flies! It seems like just yesterday when Granada Theater and The Kessler were duking it out over a semi-botched billing featuring Air Review. Wasn’t that fun? With that episode long behind us, we’re excited for Saturday’s lineup featuring some of Dallas’ best up-and-coming acts. The Burning Hotels released what may be our favorite local album of 2011, and Mon Julien (featuring Cory Watson and Brian McCorquodale of Black Tie Dynasty) will be releasing their debut album at the show. For local music fans (and really, music fans in general) this show is not to be missed.

Why: For a change of pace, Bill Frisell may be one of my favorite modern guitarists. The man makes such beautiful music and 2005′s East/West is one of my favorite albums of the 2000′s. Plus seeing him perform in an intimate venue like the Kessler is a treat!
