If you go to only three shows this weekend, make sure it’s these.
There are some strong choices this weekend if you’re looking for live music, including the first ever visit to dallas from a recent R&B internet phenom.
Where are you headed this weekend?
The Weeknd at House of Blues
Support: n/a
Date: Friday, June 15, 2012
Doors: 8:00pm
Tickets: SOLD OUT – Craigslist is probably your best bet!
Why: Abel Tesfaye – better known as The Weeknd has taken a unique approach to his career thus far. The prolific 22 year old has already released three albums, and every one of them has been free. In my mind, Tesfaye, along with fellow artist Frank Ocean, have completely revived the R&B genre. Both artists bring a level of creativity and craftsmanship that hasn’t been seen in the scene in some time.
Dent May at Bryan Street Tavern
Support: Browningham and Dim Locator
Date: Friday, June 15, 2012
Doors: 11:00am
Tickets: $8.00
Why: If R&B isn’t your thing, the Dent May show should be on your radar. Dent May is a name you’re going to be hearing quite a bit more in the coming years. With strong ties to the Animal Collective (he’s currently signed to their label) and whimsical pop tunes, it’s sure to be a fun show. Plus it’s only $8!

Here We Go Magic at Sons of Hermann Hall
Support: Hundred visions
Date: Monday, June 18, 2012
Doors: Doors at 7:30 PM | Show at 8:30 PM
Tickets: Advance $12 | Day of Show $14
Why: Here We Go Magic seem to be one of those highly underrated indie bands. Their music is always a good listen (their most recent album, A Different Ship is quite good) and live, the music plays better then it does on record.
