There’s something about a band that can incorporate varied instrumentation and do it well. Some of my favorite acts of the last decade do this – Arcade Fire, Sufjan Stevens, Okkervil River – each has a sound that’s more then the sum of their parts. Known for their orchestral brand of rock, The Airborne Toxic [...]
Whew! What a busy week. As if two stellar shows wasn’t enough, there was also a killer week at work and some minor family drama. Hence this recap review. Beirut at South Side Music Hall Of note – Beirut made their first stop ever (as I’m told) to Dallas. For a band that’s been around [...]
People have always accused us of giving too much. So what if we can’t resist supporting children in Africa for just $1 a day? They looked so sad in those late night commercials! But, as givers, you guys benefit as takers. Taking us for all we’re worth in kickass concert tickets. We like it that [...]
If I could use only one word to describe The Octopus Project’s performance of their hyped show, Hexadecagon, it would be this – ballsy. In my relatively short life, I have never seen a more sensory immersive live music show. Approaching the levels of performance art, Austin’s The Octopus Project stormed into the South Side [...]
On a recent Thursday night, we had a choice – we could hop in for another mosh pit at The Loft, or throw on our skinny jeans and hang out with hipster nation at the Here We Magic & Dr. Dog show. After our experience with Monotonix, we figured some music with more… musicality… was [...]
Big thanks to the folks over at KXT Radio and South Side Music Hall for putting on this delicious set of acoustic Dr. Dog tunes. Dr. Dog graciously performed around 5 songs during the set, mostly from their recent album, Shame, Shame. Kudos for making sure the set was less then an hour long so [...]
Friday night was a big night for music in Dallas. With great shows on deck across the board, we decided to head to the Gilley’s complex and take in a duo of shows at the South Side Music Hall and The Loft.
We’re going to a duo of concerts tonight. Double trouble. A pair of performances. A couple of concerts. Both are for bands I’m not too familiar with (surprise, surprise!) so I’ve called upon the trusty Grooveshark to serve me some musical education.
